In Yaoundé, Pope Leo XIV echoed a word of consolation and hope, revealing to the suffering children the closeness of a God who never abandons.

In the discretion of an orphanage turned sanctuary of divine tenderness, Pope Leo XIV made a pastoral gesture of rare intensity on April 15, 2026. With a soft but firm voice, the Successor of Peter addressed the children of Ngul Zamba (Strength of God in Ewondo) as a father speaks to his tested sons, revealing to them the central truth of their dignity: “you are bearers of a promise.”

From his first words, the Sovereign Pontiff placed his visit within the mystery of divine consolation, describing this place as a space “where the tenderness of God is manifested,” where the Heavenly Father “holds you close to His heart.” By becoming himself a sacramental sign of this closeness, he entrusted: “I also wish to do so, in His Name.”

Without evading the harshness of paths marked by abandonment, fear, or lack, the Pope solemnly acknowledged the invisible wounds. But faithful to the evangelical dynamic, he shifted the gaze toward the theological horizon: “hope does not disappoint.” To these wounded children, he announced a vocation greater than their trials, reminding that where misery extends, God remains present, attentive, close, knowing each by name.

In an embodied catechesis, the Holy Father also placed their experience within ecclesial communion, designating Christ as the “elder brother” of a real fraternity, capable of bearing life’s weight together and generating authentic joy. Thus, the orphanage becomes a visible sign of the Church, God’s family gathered around the Son.

Finally turning to those who serve these children, the Pope gave thanks for a charity that takes flesh: “your faithful commitment is a beautiful testimony of love.” He discerned in their dedication the reflection of divine mercy, a presence that is not limited to material aid but generates communion, future, and hope.
In this place marked by fragility, the pontifical word opened a space of light: that of a faithful love, which does not fade in trial and which, patiently, lifts up and gives life.
